Topeka Scarecrows Are Here To Stay!

The Topeka Scarecrows, in partnership with Oak View Group and Shawnee County, are pleased to announce a long-term lease extension with the Stormont Vail Events Center that will keep professional hockey in Topeka through the 2030-31 season.

The agreement represents a significant commitment by both the organization and the venue to continue building a premier hockey experience for fans throughout northeast Kansas while strengthening the team's roots in the Capital City. 

After seeing the overwhelming response of over 114,000 fans through the door Oak View Group and the county commissioners quickly agreed to extend the lease for an additional thee years.

"This agreement provides stability not only for our organization but for our fans, partners, and the entire Topeka community," said Don Lewis, Scarecrows Owner. "We're incredibly grateful to Stormont Vail Events Center and all of our local partners who believe in what we're building. Extending our lease through 2031 allows us to continue investing in our team, our game-day experience, and our community for years to come."

Since returning to Topeka, the Scarecrows have focused on creating an exciting brand of hockey while becoming an active community partner through youth initiatives, charitable appearances, and local events. The lease extension ensures that momentum can continue well into the future.

General Manager Nichols echoed his enthusiasm telling media members "Our commitment has always been to prioritize the community and deliver a high-quality product on the ice with the goal of making the playoffs each year and ultimately bring a championship to our dedicated fans in Topeka. Last season was a fantastic year both on and off the ice, and we are excited to make this upcoming season even bigger and better each year through at least the 2031 season."

The Stormont Vail Events Center has served as the home of hockey in Topeka for decades, hosting countless memorable moments and providing a first-class venue for players and fans alike.

The lease extension provides the organization with long-term certainty as it continues to grow its fan base, strengthen corporate partnerships, expand community programming, and pursue championships on the ice.
