Topeka Makes Trade With Watertown Acquiring Scoring Threats

Today the Topeka Scarecrows of the FPHL are proud to announce they have made a trade with the Watertown Wolves to acquire Forwards Yegor Filippov, Yefim Mishkin, and Marquis Grant-Mentis in exchange for Trevor Lord, Josh LaBelle, and the rights to Forward Blake Peavey.

Filippov, a 24-year-old Forward from Pervomiasky,RUS, was Watertown's leading point scorer last season. Yegor's 62 points in 47 games had him in the top 25 point getters in the league. After coming over from Turkey having spent the previous year in Russia's VHL league the North American game suited Filippov. 9 of Yegor's 28 goals came on the power play which should help an already dangerous Scarecrows power play.

Mishkin, a 27-year-old Forward from Lipetsk,RUS, came into his first season in North America after two season in the Turkish League. With 48 points in 45 games including 4 game winning goals to his record Yefim has to be considered a threat all over the ice. After putting up 108 points in 39 games in Turkey there was no doubt of Mishkin's offensive prowess, but his discipline in not taking penalties can make him an asset at any point.

Grant-Mentis, a 27-year-old Forward from Brampton, ONT, found a home late last season with the Wolves playing 18 games and putting up 13 points. Marquis has had a few stops in his FPHL tenure and his speed and skill cannot be questioned. Grant-Mentis best offensive season came in Delaware when he posted a 24 point season in 21 games.

"To get quality you must give quality. Trevor Lord and Josh LaBelle, were good players for us, but anytime you have a chance to add 2 young stars, you must make the move. Yegor was the leading scorer for Watertown while Yefim was second in scoring. I believe they were the best 2 rookies in the FPHL." Said General Manager Robbie Nichols.

Trevor Lord and Josh LaBelle were both late season acquisitions in Topeka's playoff drive. Lord and LaBelle both contributed offensively in their games with the Scarecrows and LaBelle's defensive prowess was a big addition to the blue line. Though they weren't in Topeka long they helped to create memories from this inaugural season that won't soon be forgotten. Peavey's rights were acquired ahead of the postseason, but Blake did not arrive for a game in Topeka.
