Scarecrows Re-Sign Forwards Boston Bird And Grant Coykendall

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Topeka Scarecrows announced today that forwards Boston Bird and Grant Coykendall have re-signed with the organization for the 2026–27 Federal Prospects Hockey League season.

The return of Bird and Coykendall gives the Scarecrows two players who are already familiar with the organization, its expectations and the passionate hockey community in Topeka. Both forwards will look to build upon their previous experience with the club as the Scarecrows prepare for their second season at Stormont Vail Events Center.

“We are excited to have Boston and Grant returning to Topeka,” said Scarecrows General Manager Robbie Nichols. “Both players understand what we are building here and want to be part of its continued growth. Their familiarity with our organization will be valuable as we put together a competitive roster for the upcoming season.”

Bird returns to the Scarecrows looking to bring energy, determination and added depth to Topeka’s forward group. In 38 games Boston scored 18 points, with 9 goals and 9 assists, and 37 penalty minutes since coming over from Watertown. His willingness to compete and contribute wherever needed makes him a valuable piece of the team’s plans moving forward.

Coykendall will also return to Topeka after establishing himself within the Scarecrows organization. He will look to take another step in his development while providing versatility to the Topeka lineup. As a late addition to the Scarecrows Grant played 10 games adding 4 penalty minutes to the squad as a large intimidating presence for Topeka heading into the postseason.

The re-signings continue a busy offseason for the Scarecrows as the organization builds its roster under Head Coach Ahmed Mahfouz for the 2026–27 campaign.
