Scarecrows Add Size And Scoring With Signings Of Tristen Wells And Samuel Frederick

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Topeka Scarecrows announced today that the team has signed versatile forward Tristen Wells and defenseman Samuel Frederick for the 2026–27 season.

Wells joins the Scarecrows following an outstanding season with EC Eisbären Balingen in Germany. The 6-foot-6, 201-pound Denver, Colorado, native recorded 29 goals and 17 assists for 46 points in 17 games during the 2025–26 campaign.

The 26-year-old is also familiar with the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Wells spent two seasons with the Motor City Rockers, producing 20 goals, 14 assists and 34 points across 86 regular-season games. He enjoyed a breakout 2024–25 season with Motor City, collecting 14 goals and eight assists in 42 games while accumulating 100 penalty minutes. He also appeared in two games with the Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

“Tristen brings a rare combination of size, versatility and offensive ability,” Scarecrows General Manager Robbie Nichols said. “He already understands this league, plays with an edge and is coming off a tremendous season in Germany. We believe he can make an immediate impact.”

Frederick will begin his professional career after completing his collegiate tenure with Missouri State University in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-shot defenseman registered four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 24 games during the 2025–26 season. Three of his four goals came on the power play.

The North Vancouver, British Columbia, native previously played junior hockey with the North Vancouver Wolf Pack. Across 82 regular-season games with the organization, Frederick recorded four goals and 19 assists for 23 points while collecting 68 penalty minutes.

“Samuel is a steady, mobile defenseman who makes smart decisions with the puck,” Nichols said. “He has continued to develop throughout his collegiate career, and we are excited to give him the opportunity to begin his professional career here in Topeka.”
