Scarecrows Acquire Defenseman Zach Ross in Trade with Indiana

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Topeka Scarecrows announced today that the organization has completed a trade with the Indiana Sentinels, acquiring defenseman Zach Ross and a player to be named later in exchange for forward Aldiyar Nurlan.

Ross, a 26-year-old native of Portland, Oregon, appeared in 44 Federal Prospects Hockey League games during the 2025–26 season, recording four goals, seven assists, 11 points and 42 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound, left-shot defenseman divided the season between the Watertown Wolves, Blue Ridge Bobcats and Indiana Sentinels.

Ross finished his season with Indiana, contributing two goals and an assist in 11 appearances. He previously registered six points on two goals and four assists over 15 games with Blue Ridge and added two assists in 18 games with Watertown. 

“Zach is a player who brings professional experience and added depth to our blue line,” said Scarecrows General Manager Robbie Nichols. “We believe his size, mobility and ability to contribute at both ends of the ice will make him a strong addition to our group. This trade also gives us another asset to work with once the player to be named later is determined.”

Nurlan, a 22-year-old native of Kazakhstan, appeared in 29 FPHL games between the Biloxi Breakers and Topeka during the 2025–26 campaign, producing 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. After joining the Scarecrows, the 6-foot-1, 187-pound forward recorded three goals and four assists for seven points in 12 games. 

“We appreciate Aldiyar’s time with our organization and the effort he gave while wearing a Scarecrows uniform,” Nichols added. “We wish him nothing but the best as he continues his career in Indiana.”

Additional information regarding the player to be named later will be announced once that portion of the transaction is completed.
